Advice to Samsung: Proactive research better than playing catch-up with Apple, and about $1 billion cheaper
The recent California Court decision to award Apple $1 billion in damages for patent infringement has major implications for every player in the smart phone industry. I think a proactive approach to monitoring patent research would have changed the outcome for Samsung and teaches an important lesson. A presentation by William N. The “Edison of Our Age” Didn’t Need a College Degree
I was intrigued to learn about the “Edison of Our Age,” who passed away recently at the age of 89. I had never before heard the name Stanford Ovshinsky – inventor of nickel-metal hybrid battery, amorphous (disordered) semiconductor materials as well as many other discoveries. By my count, Mr. Ovshinsky held 440 US and 82 European patents.
